As the first post on our blog, I would like to thank you personally for visiting our website and taking the time to read this post - thank you.

I want to start by introducing myself as Kyle Perry, the owner and founder of Kyle R. C. Perry Heating & Plumbing Ltd. I have a beautiful family including 2 young children. I am very passionate about the plumbing and heating industry and my long term goal in business is to be known for providing an impeccable service to our wonderful Essex community.

How did I get into the plumbing and heating industry?

I grew up in a little village called Great Wakering with my mum, stepdad, brother and 2 sisters. I am the eldest of the 4 of us. My stepdad was a self employed plumbing and heating engineer who worked for a company in Leigh-on-Sea. From the age of around 13, my stepdad allowed me to go to work with him during half term. I really enjoyed it, especially handling power tools for the first time in my life. From then on it became ‘the thing’ to go to work with my stepdad during half term and the summer holidays. He would say to me “you’re not sitting at home for 6 weeks, you can come to work with me”, and off I went. I loved going to work with him, I picked things up quite quickly and was gaining experience handling tools at such a young age. I carried out my work experience with the same company, and the engineers I assisted all put in a good word about me to the boss.

The school I attended had something in place called ‘study leave’. This meant that we left school a number of weeks before our exams to revise for them. I remember one of my first days on study leave, my stepdad said “you’re not sitting at home, you can come to work with me”, so off I went. I worked with my stepdad for a while and he paid me £10 cash per day out of his own pocket. One day one of the other engineers needed help on a job. The boss asked my stepdad if I could work with the other engineer, and his response was “as long as you’re going to pay his wages for the day”, which was agreed. I really felt like this was my opportunity to shine, I really wanted to make a statement and prove to this engineer that I was worthy of an apprenticeship with this company. The experience I had gained from working with my stepdad meant that I knew which tools were needed for certain tasks. I made sure that throughout the day I had the correct tool ready in my hand to pass to the engineer before he’d even had a chance to ask for it. I made sure the tool was handed over in such a way that the handle of the tool was put in his hand in such a manner that he could use it straight away without making any adjustments. I made sure that any sweeping up I done made the place cleaner than before we arrived. I asked questions about how things worked to show my enthusiasm for the job. I was nervous, but acted confident. The engineer put in a really good word about me to the boss, and before I knew it, he’d offered me an apprentaship! The ironic thing was, I then had to take time off work to go back to school to sit my exams!

My Journey

I completed my apprenticeship after attending college in Southend-on-Sea and Basildon, once a week, working the remaining 4 days alongside other engineers for 5 years. I became a fully qualified gas safe registered plumbing and heating engineer in 2014 at the age of 21. In 2016 I set up my own company, alongside my step mum, as she had various businesses and helped guide and support me in the admin aspects of business, until I eventually picked it all up myself, took the reins from her, and took full control of the company. For a number of years I worked alongside another company as a subcontractor before going completely independent and working for our own private customers only. I’ve had my ups and downs in business, as most companies do, but I’ve always remained determined, passionate, and focused, which has resulted in me growing my business with the excellent reputation that is has. I sacrificed time with my family, including time with my young children, to attend emergency call outs, I started work early and worked really late to allow me to squeeze more jobs in to help build my clientele, I don’t like turning work down so I always do whatever it takes to get to my customers, day or night. I would never have been able to do this if it wasn’t for my amazing Mrs!

Last year, in 2024, it came at a complete shock to me to receive an email from ThreeBestRated, an independent company who spend the time researching the local companies in various areas and pick the top 3 to be listed on their website. ThreeBestRated confirmed that my business had been researched and chosen as one of the top 3 plumbing companies in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. We have been listed on their website and was presented with a digital award plaque which we proudly present on our website and social media accounts.

I now employ 2 members of staff, as well as a small handful of subcontractors here and there, and I’m currently in the process of trying to expand our team with another engineer and another apprentice. We have an excellent reputation across the Essex area, including 103x 5 star reviews on our Google profile. We will continue to provide an unbeatable service to our customers and hopefully continue to grow the business for many years to come.
